DocumentDB not in Portal RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I am new to documentDb and I was going over this URL to get started with it

    http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/documentdb-create-account/

and when I went to my portal account I don't see it listed under New / data services. The only option I see there are SQL Database, storage, HDInsight, recovery services, machine learning.

Why am I missing the DocumentDB option in Azure Portal and what do I need to do to have it?

    Thanks much

    -Sarah

  • Hi Sarah,

The URL for the new portal, the Azure Preview portal, where DocumentDB lives, is https://portal.azure.com.

The URL for the older portal is https://manage.windowsazure.com. But you won't find DocumentDB there.

These are the only two versions of the portal, and not everything exists in both versions. Cloud Services is only available in the older portal, while other services, like Azure Websites are available in both portals.

So for now, you'll need to use the older portal to manage your Cloud Services and the newer portal to manage DocumentDB.

    Thanks,
    Mimi

  • Hi,

DocumentDB is only available in the preview portal (https://portal.azure.com)

From your description, it looks like you are using the 'old' portal.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you so much Edward for this, Yes I was using another version. I had no idea that it was an older version,

How do I know which version is new from old one. How many Portal versions are out there? I am so confused as to which one is currently in use and which one I am supposed to be using.

Where do I need to check to know what is the latest version out there is, please let me know and is this one that you mentioned is the current one? Is Portal Preview ( the one you mentioned) is the one that everyone is using for all Azure Portal needs and the older one should not be used?

One more question I have for you is, in the "old" portal I had a cloud service (with worker roles )deployed under cloud services. I still see it but its not running right now, its been stopped, I do see it there.

Now I cant find it under  preview Portal (new one) ?  In fact I don't even see cloud services listed once i go to browse. Which category do the cloud services fall under the new portal preview?

    Thanks much

    -Sarah
