project server 2013: preventing users from editing project schedule outline level 1 and 2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have a project template that users can use to create projects. The users have to update the template to match their project. However, the users should not be able to edit the names of the tasks on outline level 1 and 2. However, they have full control over the tasks in outline level 3 and above. Is this possible? How? To generalize, we need to prevent users from editing the names of specific tasks while allowing them to do whatever they want with other tasks.

    Thanks,
    George

  • Hi George,

You don't tell us if it is related to MS Project Pro or to PWA (Web Access). Whatever, the answer is the same: you cannot prevent users editing some tasks if they can open in read-write mode the project plan. Of course, doing some code (js in PWA or VBA in PPRO), you'll be able to propose an acceptable solution. Note also that if users need to edit outline level 3 tasks, it will automatically udapte summary tasks at level 2.

    Hope this helps,
