.NET Framework to run on Windows Server 2008 Server Core RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had posted a question on this forum and got a response that said something like .NET Framework's dependencies on shell32.dll, Internet Explorer, etc. make it difficult to get the Framework to run under Server Core.

In data center and server farm environments, it is imeperative to have Server Core based deployments of Server 2008 and Microsoft must make .NET Framework run under Server Core.

Is it possible for Microsoft to further modularize the Framework so that those dependencies can be mitigated? I mean, would a WCF or WF app require dependencies on shell32.dll or IE? Or would an ASP.NET app require a dependency on shell32.dll?

  • The Server Core currently does not support .net framework. This is something the .NET team wants to add and we're working on adding it as soon as possible. But more detailed information is still confidential.

    Thanks for your understanding!
