Bing maps and power BI filled map RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I am in Australia and I am trying to create a Power BI "filled map" . This visual uses bing maps - however it appears that Bing returns some accurate GIS boundaries for some suburbs or postal codes in my state but not others. Is there something that i am not doing correctly? i have flagged in power Bi tables for my suburbs that they are indeed locations, and post codes are "postal codes".. some work but not others unfortunately.. any ideas?

    thanks

  • Can you provide details around some of the locations that aren't working? It is possible that the data isn't available. postal code and city boundaries are hard to come by in general and are not available everywhere.

  • Hi Ricky

thanks for your reply. In power bi if I use the map visual it pins correctly however I don't want pins I want filled maps (I think they are polygons). Anyway some suburbs are "Australia" - Country  "State" - Victoria "Suburb" - Cranbourne , Narre Warren, Hallam, Harkaway, Berwick.. postcodes if you need them can be looked up here..http://postcodez.com.au/ (ie Cranbourne is 3977)

many thanks, and if you have another way as to how I can represent this in Power Bi that would be awesome as we love Power BI!

  • It looks like Bing Maps has this data. Might be an issue with Power BI understanding what boundary to display. You can contact the Power BI support team here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/support/
