SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any way to allow use of SQL 2008 Management Studio to DBA/Develolpers without granting them Admin Rights on their PC? Our requirement is to allow application DBAs access through SSMS to their Databases and granat them Database Roles without granting them sysadmin or serveradmin or securityadmin Server Roles on the SQL Server 2008 Server itself.

  • Hi Bob,

    Thank you for your post.

Are the SQL Server running on the remote server machine and the SSMS is installed on the DBA/Developers own PC?

Granting them Administrator rights on their PC do not impact the permission in the SQL Server instance, you could just grant them the defined database role to limit the permission in SQL Server.
