Creating vCalendar ICS file RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am needing to email vCalendat ICS files with random events - the recipient needs to be able to double click the ICS file to save all these appointments into their Outlook.   I can create a vCalendar ICS file for a single date however when I try using the RDATE: Tag following the RFC format I always get an error (even when I create the file manually).    Can you please advise the correct format and where I can view helpful examples.  Thanks for help with this question (Sorry, If I have contacted the wrong Forum - please let me know where I should be asking my question.)   Thanks and regards Andrew

  • Have you tried creating a sample appointment in Outlook, saving it in the ICS format, and using it as your template?

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  No I haven't been able to create an example of what I need because though the RFC document suggests differently Outlook does not seem to support it.  I can create a recurring appointment for example: for 5 days in a row or on each monday of every month.  However I need to be able to have random days and dates.  I was hoping there may be good examples available - so far I have only been able to find examples for the recurring option.   Thanks again for your response.  Andrew

  • Why not try to create an ICS file in Outlook and compare it to what you have as a test? How can you be so sure that Outlook is to blame and your ICS file is valid?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.  Yes I can create sequenced appointments (e.g: 1st Jan, 2nd Jan, 3rd Jan or 1st Feb, 1st Mar, 1st Apr)  but it is not possible to create irregular appointments (e.g: 10th Feb, 20th Mar, 13th Jun).  I just wanted to confirm if I had missed something and that the last option is possible.

     Thanks Andrew

  • You can create a regular recurring appointment, then modify the instances that need to be modified (thus creating exceptions).
