Passing parameters to SSRS Reports via URL Querystring from PWA > Project Centre RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi;

    Please can you help clarify this query. We are working on an opportunity to help develop BI for a customer. The key user requirement is to be able to launch SSRS reports based on the context of projects displayed in PWA 2007 > Project Centre i.e. reporting on projects that the user has access to and displayed/filtered in PWA 2007 > Project Centre.

    Can you please help clarify the query and guide us in the right direction.

    Following is the link we found regarding passing parameters to an SSRS report via the URL. Though this link per se refers to SSRS 2008, we did find references in other links that said that even SSRS 2005 followed the same approach. We can potentially use this logic to call the report directly from within PWA. What we would do is basically call the report’s URL and pass the required parameters to the report via the URL querystring itself. The issue we are facing here is that for some reason the report completely ignores the parameters and does not filter out the report. All links we found on this topic ask us to pass the parameters in the same manner. So we need to know if we are missing something or whether in case of SSRS 2005, there is some other approach to call a report directly via a URL and pass parameters to it.

  • Not sure I understand the exact question and how it pertains to SSRS, you could easily built your T-SQL queries to filter content by user, see this for instance, did a blog post in the past on this topic. Additionally check out Steven Sanderlain solution to enforce security trimming of SSRS using PS security and PSI

  • Thanks Christophe.

    Yes, we are aware of the other options and have used them before i.e. SQL query and directly via PSI. We were looking at option of inheriting the context (passing report parameters) i.e. project prefiltered directly from PWA > Project Centre. Would be a neat solution..i.e. from en-user perspective. Looks like we will have to stick with the PSI option and do it via RS.

    Thanks
