Surrogate Key necessary.... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been reading through the posts about surrogate vs. natural keys, but I have a simple question.

I have a vendors table that contains the following columns, Vendor_Abbreviation and Vendor_Description.  Both columns contain unique values and are of the varchar variety.  My question is would I need a primary key (identity column (1,1)) or could I make the primary key on the Vendor_Abbreviation column.

  • You can keep Vendor_Abbreviation as a primary key.
