Azure to Azure - Test Failover RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

Wanted to check in with the group and see what their thoughts are for performing test DR efforts for VMs residing in Azure and failing over to another region in Azure.

Does MS recommend changing IPs/names for test failed over VMs or maintain the same name and same IP address (assuming a bubble exists in the target VNET(s).

    Thanks!

  • It always good to maintain a different IP Set in Test Fail-over also(Isolated Env) to confirm whether applications are working as expected when there is a change in IP Set. For example, never know when you did an actual fail-over where your IP set is different compared to Primary region then the Test Fail-over analysis will help you to fix them.

Note: Though it's recommended to have a different IP set, it's still possible to create a DR network with same IP set but it's complex to maintain and run through.

Understanding the IP dependency on the applications before the DR is the first step to be performed.
