How do I UN-INSTALL ASP.NET 5 RC1 Update 1? It asks for a file "AspNet5.ENU.RC1_Update1.exe" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Subject says it. I just cannot get rid of that piece of software (installed by Visual Studio as an "update"). It keeps asking me for a file "AspNet5.ENU.RC1_Update1.exe" - but even when I gave it a location to such a file that I found in a remote obscure corner (under C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{782d25e1-8377-4417-a491-3013700fe300}) the uninstall failed!

How do I get rid of it? It's 1.5GB of junk!

    From the log:

  • I think I had a broken installation package. I found the directory and the package (which is in the error message) and I found that the package file was of much shorter size than it should be. So I downloaded the whole thing again, replaced the package file with the now larger not corrupt one, then it worked.

  • Do you have a link for the download? I am having the same problem but can't find a link to download this.

  • Hmm. I looked on there and there isn't a download link. (Or if there is I couldn't see it).

I tried installing, and then uninstalling, via chocolately, and I am still seeing it in my Programs and Features list.

    The search continues.

  • I tried all these installation packages and none worked for me:

    AspNet5.ENU.RC1.exe

    AspNet5.ENU.RC1_Update1.exe

    AspNet5.ENU.RC1_Update1_KB3137909.exe

The behavior that I was seeing was "Setup blocked" during the start of a repair or uninstall, then the message "Account already exists" multiple times before it finally failed. Having just uninstalled VS2015, I wondered whether that was causing the problem. I re-installed VS2015 (Community, Update 3), then the uninstall for ASP.Net 5 RC 1 Update 1 finally succeeded.

  • I've just come across this problem. I uninstalled VS2015 to make space for VS2017. (I have a small SSD for drive C.) After installing VS2017, I wanted to clear more space and tried to uninstall ASP.NET 5 RC1 Update 1, and got this problem - it is looking for _KB3137909.exe. I downloaded the installer (AspNet5.ENU.RC1_Update1.exe) and was able to do a repair, but then trying uninstall fails with the same error.

So if I need to re-install VS2015 to uninstall ASP.NET 5 RC1 Update 1, that means I'll first have to uninstall VS2017 to make space for VS2015!

Is there some other way I can just delete the files and remove the reference to it in Programs and Features?

  • When I tried to run the files suggested it failed immediately. On the bottom of the log file I saw,

0340:32C0][2018-07-18T13:17:38]e000: This product requires Visual Studio 2015 or Visual Studio Express 2015 for Web to be installed. Please install the missing product, then install this product again.
[0340:32C0][2018-07-18T13:17:38]e000: Error 0x81f40001: Bundle condition evaluated to false: WixBundleInstalled OR VS2015DevEnvExists OR VS2015WebExpressExists OR (WixBundleAction=2)
    [0340:32C0][2018-07-18T13:17:38]i199: Detect complete, result: 0x0

I really don't want to have to load Visual Studio 2015, I had just uninstalled Visual Studio Community 2017 to try to uninstall Microsoft ASP.NET 5 RC1 Update 1. This is a bad design.

I get Uninstall Failed "Error 0x80070643 - Fatal Error during installation"

Let me know if anyone else has any more suggestions.

    thanks in advance!
