Can we increase the number of data disks after completely using all data disks that had been allocated to VM while creation

    Question

  • We have created 4 VMs and each virtual machine has max. 16 TB data disk storage under same storage account. Now we want several separate data disks that has to be a part of the same storage account but not inside of any of the virtual machines. These data disks can then be used as shared disks for each of the virtual machine. Storage account limit is 500 TB. Also we do not want to use file sharing.

  • It is not possible to have data disks that are shared by multiple VMs in Azure. The standard way to share the data between VMs in Azure is to use Azure File Storage.
Is there any particular reason you don't want to opt for Azure File Storage?
