Looking for KML or GeoRSS Example in Bing Maps Ajax Control v7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I've been working through the documentation for v7 of the AJAX control and cannot seem to get a KML or GeoRSS feed working.  There are a few snippet of code here and there that demonstrate this functionality in earlier versions, but I can't seem to get them going in v7.  Any one know where I should be looking?

  • This doesn't currently exist in v7 - you'll have to roll-your own GeoRSS or KML parsing code.

  • I have an example for GeoRSS in the works that is built on top of jQuery. I hope to have it out by the end of the weekend. Once that is up it should be easy to create a kml version that has at least partial support.

  • Thanks so much for your responses!  It really helps to know when you should stop looking.  Cheers,

  • I'd greatly appreciate seeing your example, as well. I was just about to start on migrating a project from 6.x to 7 and noticed the GeoRSS feed support has been removed in this release.

  • I've just put up a blog post on some code I put together to import GeoRSS (and some GML) into Bing Maps v7 using jquery as a helper. You can view the post and download the code sample here:

  • Will support for KML be added to the v7.0 API later?

  • I'm not sure what the road map is for the v7 control and what features are planned. However if you look at the source code for the GeoRSS import tool I created you will see that it's pretty easy to do the same thing for basic KML (Which is all v6.3 supported anyways).

  • Hey Richard,

Thanks so much for your great post, it was very helpful! The placement of the objects seems to be working perfectly, but the title/description/icon/link are not getting set correctly. I've debugged into the JS, and the metadata object is getting created properly, and with the correct values. However, the final shape that gets returned doesn't seem to have the right properties set. I've tried manually setting the title/description in the same area (prior to returning the shape), but it doesn't seem to work.

While I do know jQuery, I am not as familiar with the Bing Maps API (v7). Any help would be great, and if you have any pointers, I am happy to do some of the lifting.
