general database question

    Question

  • Hi all,

I started today to try out visual studio. I have been using VB6 for some years now. And i'm trying to move on.

I have been using the DAO database approach in VB6, but have not much luck using it is Visual studio.

I am used to use code like:

    Set Db = OpenDatabase(mypath & "dbname.mdb")
    Set Rs = DbProd.OpenRecordset("SELECT...")

    Do While Not rs.EOF
          list1.additem rs!fieldname
         rs.movenext
    loop
    db.close
I like to populate the vb controls myself.

My question is, what is the best way to go:

stick with DAO ? Or is it better/faster to use a database server situation using ODBC

are there other solutions you recommend ?

    please advice,

    Michael
