save site as template from central admin - possible ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • we can save site as a template from site settings. But due to threshold issues with workflow history list we can't.

Now is it possible to save this site as a template by any other means ?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

You can use the option Backup and Restore under central admin to backup site collection, sub site or list.

Note: The backup will having extension as .cmp and not .stp (template)

So while restoring the backup you have to do it using powershell command. For more information refer the following article:

Back up, restore, or move a SharePoint site

    Hope this helps :)

  • Hi Prajk11,

Per my test, the InfoPath forms will be moved correctly. You don't have to redesign them.

Also, the workflows will also be moved. However, they will lose their associate list, task list and history list.

So you won't see them in the list directly.

Here are the steps to restore the workflow:

    1. Open the new restored site in SP designer.

    2. Go to All Files > Workflows and find the orphan workflow.

    3. Edit in advanced mode the ".xoml.wfconfig.xml" file.

    4. Find the attribute "<Association ListID= " and replace the current GUID with the GUID of the newly created List.

    How to get list GUID:
