Type or name Space not Found [Missing Assembly reference?] RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using a sample code published by microsoft for Enterprise Application Integaration. Outlook is being used as the integration platform. This was developed by microsoft under 'Project Elixir' and 'Project Alchemy'.

    There are references to Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.dll

The code is using the dll or name space as below.

    CommandBarManager(Microsoft.Office.Tools.Outlook.Application app)

    this (app.Inspectors.Application)

I am getting a build error stating that

Error 1:  The type or namespace name 'Application' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft.Office.Tools.Outlook' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

I have checked the references and they are correct.

Can anybody provide help in getting rid of this error?

  • You must include a reference to Outlook in the project.  That is done by using the Add References dialog.  Note that integration with Office has changed quite a bit over the years so if the documentation is old then you'll likely have to update the code to use the newer assemblies.  Nevertheless Add References will put the correct assembly in place.
