How to identify the failing workflow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm the admin of a rather large MOSS server farm, and I'm seeing errors in my logs for failing workflows.

My question is, how do I identify who's workflow this is??  I have over 800 site collections, 8000 webs, and around 2500 custom workflows built with the WF wizard in SP designer (the bane of my existance as a farm admin).

  • I may have found my rouge workflow.  Only time will tell if I have the right one or mearly identified a different problem WF.

I looked through the content DB's table dbo.workflow (have some 30 content DB's) until I found the DB with a table exceeding 1 million records, then just looked to see what site/web/list ID had the most records.  Examining this list I found three versions of a single workflow, all still active, which were spawning instances of each other.  (user had "run whenever item changes, and had the WF updating the item it was running on).

I've detached the workflow (all three versions) and am monitoring the logs.
