DV-AVI Type 1 support in media foundation ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm unable to playback DV-AVI Type 1 files in Windows 7 with WMP 12 with media foundation. WMP displays the first image of the media and then crashs after a few seconds.

On a Windows XP SP3, these files play fine without any modification. If I disable Media Foundation in Win7, the files will also play just fine.

Every other player (VLC / SMPlayer, KMplayer) I've tried played those files with no issues but neither of them uses Media Foundation.

Is there a bug in the DV-AVI support in Media Foundation ?

My DV-AVI file has the following structure

    00 : vids : dvsb : pal / 25 mbits / 4:2:0

    01 : auds : lpcm : 16bit / 48 khz / mono

    02 : auds : lpcm : 16bit / 48 khz / mono

    03 : auds : lpcm : 16bit / 48 khz / mono

    04 : auds : lpcm : 16bit / 48 khz / mono

  • Then I'd say it's a bug in WMP 12.  One of the MSFT guys may be able to confirm if it's a known bug.

AFAIK, Win7 only supports WMP 12.

Does it work with a similar AVI file with only one 'auds' stream?

Yes, it works like a charm.

  • I am not aware of any bug in DV-AVI playback, but this sure sounds like one.  Where are you getting your DV-AVI content from?

  • We use an internal software built around DirectShow to capture DV-DIF stream from various devices. Then we use another graph to encapsulate the DV-DIF inside an AVI container with a copy of the audio stream(s) in the avi container.

I'll try to get a sample file online asap.
