sqlmetal and .dbml RRS feed

I used sqlmetal to generate entities.  I noticed that when you drag and drop you get .dbml files.  Are these necessary?

  • The DBML file is an intermediate step between the SQL schema and code generation. It is used by the designer to store any changes you make to the model and then regenerates the code based on the DBML rather than the SQL schema directly.

It is not used at runtime so if your SQL exactly matches what you want your classes to look like you can do without it entirely.
