Will Setting up DB Mirroring with certificates mess up any of the current Databases? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am following the procedure shown in this link:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/suhde/archive/2009/07/13/step-by-step-guide-to-configure-database-mirroring-between-sql-server-instances-in-a-workgroup.aspx

I have already tried it and it worked perfectly, now my question is...

I am going to roll the witness on a production server, will creating the MASTER KEY, the CERTIFICATE, and the 2 users/logins for principal and mirror mess up my current databases in any way? I don't see how it could except if the MASTER KEY has something to do with all the databases.

  • Hi ElBasha!

Nothing that is required for the mirroring setup will interfer with anything except the mirroring setup. (As long as you don't overwrite existing user accounts...) So you are quite safe from where I stand.
