Unable to configure compute on Azure Data Box Edge device RRS feed

  • I am unable to configure edge compute on a Data Box Edge device. The device is registered in the Azure portal.

    • The device software version is Data Box Edge 1904 (1.5.848.563)
    • Attempting to install updates on the device via the portal has failed with the error: Could not install the updates. Error message : 'Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown.'.
    • Attempting to configure edge compute has also failed with both an existing an a new IOT Hub resource.

    Repro steps

    1. In the Get Started tab for Edge Compute, in the Configure Edge compute box click "Configure"
    2. Choose "Use existing" and choose an IoT Hub (Free SKU)
    3. Click configure

    I get an error at this point. Usually it is the following.

    message: (Http status code: 400) Could not create or update IoT role on 'dbe1'. An error occurred with the error code {NO_PARAM}. For more information, refer to the error code details ( If the error persists, contact Microsoft Support.

    One time it was this.

    message: (Http status code: 500) An internal server error has occurred. Retry the operation. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft Support
