References/Links needed for install of 2006 R2 with focus on healthcare edi RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, Greenhorn Greg here.

I'm looking for a tutorial or walk-through on how to install BizTalk that will be used to process healthcare EDI documents.  This includes the 4010 and eventually the 5010.  837 and 835 transactions are a must.

I've got to do this on a 2006 R2 system, not 2009 (next year maybe we are a bit cash constrained).

I can set up virtual servers at will.  I've even installed the basic biztalk, but I keep catching references that I need to install this, that, and the other so that the built-in features for healthcare are available.  But folks seem to assume that the reader knows exactly what to look for and where it might be.  I'm afraid I don't.

Some of the confusion may simply be differences between versions of BizTalk, but I'm sure most of it is my own lack of understanding.

I'm working overtime to remedy that now.  I'd like to have a basic, healthcare capable, Biztalk installation by the end of the week.  I'd like it to be able to take a file of claims (for example 837), have BT debatch into separate claims, and funnel each claim thru receive to send.  No processing on it to start with, just a framework so I can do further work.

What I need is education, and I need it fast.  So I'm asking this body of experts where to go to get it.

Is there a walk-through or tutorial on this set up process?

What are the best documents to sit down and read?

What are the best books I can buy, esp. with reference to healthcare?

What online training (sorry, no travel) can be had?  I'd prefer free, but can probably get the boss to spring for a recommended set.

    Thanks to all of you,

    -greg

  • First you have to install BizTalk Server 2006 R2 and then download the HL7 Accelerator which provides a comprehensive HL7 messaging solution that enables sharing of patient information within and between healthcare systems and organizations. For more information about HL7 Accelerator got to: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140030

BTS 2006 R2 deprecate the HIPAA so you have to install HIPAA Accelerator 3.0 or 3.3 with BTS 2006 then upgrade to BTS 2006 R2.

  • Thank you both.

How are the HL7 Accelerator and the HIPAA Acelerator (3.0 or 3.3) related?

Does one supercede the other?  I noted that Raja says that I need to install BT 2006, then the HIPAA accelerator, then upgrade to R2.  If HL7 supercedes the HIPAA accelerator can I simply install BT 2006 R2 then the HL7 accelerator?

OK, off to read the links above.

I've been watching BizTalk videos all day.  got a lot more of them to go before the end of the day.

    Thanks for your responses.

  • I just looked at the book reference by Raja, and it seems a bit fluffy.

    Anything more technical n detailed?

How about training courses out there?

  • I worked with only HIPAA Accelerator. I guess in BTS 2006 hipaa schemas are owned by COVAST. But in BTS 2006r2 MSFT have the own HIPAA schemas not from covast.

I am not strong with HL7. If HL7 will process HIPAA schema's transaction(835/837/270/271) and ANSI/EDIFACT then HL7 would be the better than HIPAA.

  • Did you buy that book? If yes then try to see the HIPAA walkthrough sample which would be good starter.

I believe that is only one HIPAA with BTS 2006 book.

  • No, I did not buy the book.  I did look at the description of the content and it seemed rather "Managerial" and not technical.  So far, I've not found a good book yet.

If somebody has experience with that book and a recommendation, I'd love to hear it.

I've read every document above already (except the install guide in detail) and found the codeplex one very fluffy but the one from Abdul (HL7 Accelerator) outstanding.  I'd like to find a HIPPA variant done so well as that one.  Still looking.

I found Shawn's enlightening and plan on re-reading it in reference to the installation guide when I do that, hopefully tomorrow.

  • I find it odd that you can search and search and not find good stuff.

However, somebody else can do a search and find a good tidbit!

Here is one that a co-worker of mine found on msdn:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd801132(BTS.10).aspx

It's titled "Base EDI Adapter Tutorial".  I'll be reading it tonight.

Still looking for a good book and recommendations for online-training as it relates to prepping a system for healthcare edi (4010 and 5010).  I'll have my base server built by the end of the day.  Putting on the last updates before I snapshot it and start installing BizTalk.

  • That link for basic edi samples link. I believe you are looking for Healthcare EDI so you have to install HIPAA Accelerator and read that book and try to do that book sample what i prefer to you.
