WinRT Component crashes in msvcr120d_app.dll

    Question

  • I have the strange problem on 2 devices (Acer, Lenovo) with app during start, when my WinRT component is loaded (x86)

    From the event log:

Faulting application name: wwahost.exe, version: 6.3.9600.17031, time stamp: 0x53085904
Faulting module name: msvcr120d_app.dll, version: 12.0.21005.1, time stamp: 0x524f7cec
    Exception code: 0xc0000409
    Fault offset: 0x00059f80
    Faulting process id: 0x1b48
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cf8570d938458e
    Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\wwahost.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.VCLibs.120.00.Debug_12.0.21005.1_x86__8wekyb3d8bbwe\msvcr120d_app.dll
    Report Id: 303a648b-f164-11e3-be89-2cd05ac8e6c7
    Faulting package full name: XXXXXXXXXXX_1.0.0.6_x86__rkwkdfw5vjsbe
    Faulting package-relative application ID: App

The exception indictates a "Stack Overflow" iirc. Now this happens in debug and release mode on those 2 devices.

On my dev machine, the simulator and a Dell Venue Pro 8 there are no problems at all.

Since I do not have physical access to the faulty devices, is there any other way to find out what's going on?

  • Are there crash dumps associated with these crashes?

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • Where would I find them on the devices?

  • I was assuming these were distributed via the Store. Do you have programmatic access to the devices, or not at all?  You can capture a dump of the application crashing via terminal service.
