Alternate way for AddClusterResourceDependency in Failovercluster API RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have cluster dll working for windows 2003 cluster. We use AddClusterResourceDependency to create dependency relationship between two resources.

When i add a dependency between two resources in Windows 2008 cluster API using AddClusterResourceDependency. I am getting error "dependency already exists" as said in msdn link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa367172(v=vs.85).aspx.

Can i have an alternate way to have dependency between two resources in Windows server 2008 cluster or using Failover cluster API.

I am struck here and unable to provide hish availability cluster for my application in Windows server 2008.

  • We could make this work. ABC(cluster service or application)  has three resources "IP", "Storage", "New AppResource1". "New AppResource1" has a dependency on  "IP", "Storage" and "ABC".

XYZ(cluster service or application) has two resource "New AppResource2" and "New AppResource1". "New AppResource2" has a dependency on "New AppResource1"

Problem: When I add ABC and XYZ as two different cluster services, when i try to bring them online, XYZ was failing.

Resolution: We only created ABC but added 4th resource as "New AppResource2". For this 4th resource we added "New AppResource1" as dependency. Then every thing worked as expected.
