Need to add DNS entry or Alias to Intranet without using hosts file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm not sure if this it the right forum, but I have a silverlight app that I need to deploy to different clientsites.

I compile with one host name for the WCF services, so I need to set up a DNS entry, alias or something that points machines in that intranet to the service vs an IP.

instead of an IP.  Now this is only internal.  I could put it in the hosts file, but I don't want to go around to every machine.  Can I put something like this in the router?

I'm not that familiar with the companies set up.  Many of the machines are MAC OS also.

What is the correct wording on how to do this?

Should I try to do this on the router, or is there usually a central server that handles routing.  The company has about 30-50 people in it.
