Fast app resume causes black screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to add fast app resume to my wp8 application.

I added the ActivationPolicy="Resume" and some code to cancel the MainPage loading. The other page seems to load correct (the appbar is visible with correct stuff for that page), but the background is back with no content.

I get the content if I navigate to another page (from link within the appbar) and go back.

Is this a bug, or do I somehow need to trigger the current page to redraw?

  • Can you give a bit more detail?

Hm, now it suddenly works. I'm trying to get the app to resume where it was without clearing the backstack. But the guide is a bit wrong. OnNavigatedFrom never fires the reset event.

I ended up writing a blog post on how to get fast app resume to work. The post is available here: http://mindre.net/Article/Windows_Phone_8_Fast_app_resume

What does your backstack look like when your application suspends?

What code do you have in the page constructors and navigation overrides?

    ... I assume you're following the steps here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/jj735579(v=vs.105).aspx.

  • I had the exact same problem with you. I followed the instructions in your blog (very useful, thank you) but the problem was there, exactly as you described it: the correct page resumed, the backstack was populated correctly, the appbar was showing correctly for the specific page, but the background was black. For fixing it, I had to manually upgrade the WPtoolkit libraries; the older version of NavigationInTransition/NavigationOutTransition was causing the problem. Also NuGet wouldn't prompt me for an updated version.

  • I had the same problem. I use RadControls for Windows Phone. An update from Q1 to Q3 resolved my issue.
