AS2 with SFTP

Answers

  • First, confirm they want AS2 and not PGP.

While http is by far the most common transport for AS2 encoded messages, it is not actually required.

All you need to do is use the AS2 Encoder/Decoder Pipeline Component and the SFTP Adapter.

You still configure an AS2 Agreement for the Party.  That's it.  Nothing special.

VAN?  If the Trading Partner uses a VAN, you have to use their VAN or come to some other agreement.

Yes, test with the File or any other Adapter, no problem.

  • AS2 and SFTP are two totally different protocols for transferring data.  Are you sure they didn't mean either AS2 or SFTP, or mean EDIFACT & SFTP?   I would request clarification.

As you stated AS2 uses http or https using SSL/TLS whereas SFTP uses SSH to secure the communication layer.

They also tend to use different formats of certificates.

    1) There are plenty of examples of AS2 with http/https out there, but not for SFTP, so you need to get clarification from your partner.

    2) Not necessarily, but if there is a VAN that makes it easier for you, it may be an option.

    3) You can test some things, e.g. generation of payloads, using files.  But eventually you will need to do end to end testing.

  • Well now they have seem to want SFTP and have not mentioned AS2 at all. I am going to check back with them and close this thread for the time being. Thanks to Colin and Johns.
