WDF and WMI Redistributable libraries RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently added newly published WMI classes to my application written in C++.  The new WMI classes are:

                1) MSFC_FCAdapterHBAAttributes

          2) MSFC_FibrePortHBAAttributes

The first time I tried to compile my application it failed on linking due to missing DLL libraries.  I found I needed to install the Windows Driver Development Kit to successfully link my program.

My question is: I am worried that I now have an installation prerequisite for my application.  If I install my program on a system will I need to also install a WDF Redistributable library? I searched the WDF and WMI topics and have not found any answers, and I currently don’t have a way to test these classes to find out.

  • Why don't you statically link?

I'm not familiar with this class, or even sure you can call it outside of kernel mode, but if you can, I'd statically link so that there are no dependencies on DLL's.
