  • You cannot install .NET Framework 4.5 or any edition of Visual Studio 2012 on Windows XP.

XP is not a supported OS for these new products.

Read system requirements for .NET 4.5 here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653

"Supported operating systems: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2, Windows Vista Service Pack 2

      • Windows Vista SP2 (x86 and x64)
      • Windows 7 SP1 (x86 and x64)
      • Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (x64)
      • Windows Server 2008 SP2 (x86 and x64)

As .NET Framework 4.5 is a prerequisite for VS 2012 (all editions), the supported OS list above applies to VS 2012 as well.
