Metro-Style app "talks" to a standard .exe program

    Question

  • Does anybody know if there is an easy way to make a metro style app written in HTML5/Javascript communicate with an existing C# or VB.NET program?

I have a C# program that communicates with custom hardware over a USB port. Can I simply create a metro-style app that talks to my C# program "behind the scenes" for purposes of exchanging data? I can add additional code to my existing C# application, but I do not want to re-create that program from scratch as a metro-app. I just want a quick and dirty way of sharing real-time data between a metro-app and a Form-based program.

  • Hi Larry,

Because of the security sandboxing of Metro Style apps, you cannot easily communicate between apps.  IPC is blocked for Metro Style apps both to other Metro Style apps and Desktop apps.
