Layout cycle detected. Layout could not complete. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having the same problem Garth did a while ago.  Here's the link.

One of the weird things about it is I only get the error when the browser is maximized.  The error doesn't appear when the window is regular.

I'm using Version 1.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Dave,

    I'm using version 1.

The problem appears to be with the datagrid having 6 command buttons.  If I remove one of them it works.  If I change one to a link it works.  So, I changed all six to links and it works.  I've included a screen shot.  I'm going to stick with just having the links.  I guess it has problems with too many command buttons.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Dave,

for Silverlight the layout cycle detected is from what I am aware a 'time-out' of all the elements calculating their sizes and positions. Sometimes it can be heading towards being infinite due to conflicting constraints on sizes.

The screen designer in debug is far more prone to this as it attempts to display so much on the screen at once including a miniature version of your full screen xaml.

You can get similar effects in HTML, in particular the 'old' table element.

This is a bit of guess work but the areas I would check if it was me would be:

    1. Any manually set layout properties such as stretch and minimum/maximum sizes.

    2. For a grid try setting column widths and row height

The maximised screen displays more rows, likely, hence more rounds of layout cycling for points #1 and #2 above ->> timeout.

Could you let us know the LS version (v1 :), shell and theme and some more screen details, perhaps a screen shot, and any cells that strike you as need frequent and complex resizing?

    Cheers

    Dave B

  • Hi Dave,

Did you try fix widths for the command buttons rather than 'Auto'?

  • I fixed the widths and heights but it still caused the error.

So, I'm going to use links.  It paints faster and actually looks better.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • After about 26 rows, I was getting an error with 5 buttons. Converted to links and no errors.
