  • Hi Kahns01,

    Thank you for your post.

For error code "1603", it is a common message that means "fatal error during installation".

Could you please help me to try the following steps for further troubleshooting?

    1. Download .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (Full Package) which will install .NET 2.0 with SP2, 3.0 with SP2 and 3.5 with SP1.
    2. Use Cleanup tool to remove .NET Framework 3.5 >> 3.0 >> 2.0 in order
    3. Run the installer to install .NET 3.5 SP1
    4. If any problem occurs during the installation, use Collect tool to collect the log files for further troubleshooting.

The steps to collect the log:
    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%")
    - Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (full package)
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder
       Collect tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx
    - Upload vslogs.cab file to SkyDrive and post the link back here

Hope this helps! If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

  • I seem to have the same problem. Something is wrong with 2.0 to cause the error (3.5 also installs 2.0).  I've tried everything i can think of to install 2.0 and 3.5. Uninstalling 1.1 and reinstalling it did nothing (updating 1.1 and not updating it as well).

In the end i downloaded 4.0 BETA and it  worked. I guess it doesn't install 2.0.

Problem is i'm still receiving 1.1 updates and nothing that uses 2.0 or 3.5 seems to work. Kind of defeats the point i guess.
-- I am running Windows XP
    -- HP Computer
-- I decided to restore to factory settings and it didn't go so well. the framework problem is the last thing i needed to fix.

p.s. i downloaded a cleanup tool program for .net and it didn't change anything.

Also i get this mostly now.
    12/05/2009 14:52:07 [3092]: Command line: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ngen.exe queue scmstop

  • This can be an issue with the permission with the ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 registry key. Find the below link for more details

  • I too am receiving the 1603 error code when trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1.  I used the collect tool and have posted the vslogs.cab file here:

    https://cid-4569ce7cd8f97373.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents

    my error

[11/30/09,23:02:12] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603

I ran the tips you suggested, but I still have these problems, I put the file in the link like you suggested.

Please let me know if you can figure out the problem.

    Thanks,
