Do you feel bad for the poor little Guids? RRS feed

  • Do you feel bad using guids... because you think you're killing one everytime you create one for testing purposes?

I felt bad for a few guid's today. Maybe I need some time away from my desk.

  • You could look at it another way... Guid generation is time-based so the ones you use could only be generated at that specific moment in time. You're giving them a chance to exist, when otherwise they never could (well, not until the time-based part of the algorithm wraps around anyway, which is quite some time away).

  • Nowadays, they are generated at random.  The Guid is not 100% guaranteed to be unique, but it is close enough.  Your generation of a Guid makes it no more or less likely that an identical Guid will ever be generated again.  So, generate Guids without fear!
