Limitation on windows server 2012 scheduled task argument RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Interesting. I cannot find a forum for win server 2012! I have to place my thread here. If there is some other forum better than this one, please let me know!

I am copying  scheduled tasks from windows server 2008 r2 to windows server 2012. The tasks are to start an application program written by my team. The application behaves differently depends on the arguments.

Some of the tasks that used to run pretty well fail on win 2012. I finally narrow down it is the length of the action argument that cause the problem. The task starts to fail when the arguments exceed 260 characters. In task history, there is some description like this in Launch and Run event.

Task Scheduler failed to start instance "{17a7f6b2-b160-41e7-947b-74412c6b790f}" of "XXXXXX"  task for user "user" . Additional Data: Error Value: 2147942487.

Do you know is there an official note on this problem? Is it configurable?

    Thanks!

    M.

  • It turns out not be a windows 2012 scheduled task problem. Close it.
