Sharepoint user permissions problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi community.

    Running WSS 3.0 on a 2007 server, I've got the following problem;

    My company use a single site collection for our customers, let's call it http://example.intranett.net/ - each customer get a subsite, such as http://example.intranett.net/customerx and http://example.intranett.net/customerz . So far, so good. Then enter le problem.

    I use the [Me] filter function to create a "My assignments" view, where the "Name" column in the list is a person or a group. When either editing an element, or creating a new element, this works fine, and the column does as it's told to, that is, it lists the name of the user group for that particular subsite. However, when I choose the "Edit in Datasheet view" from the Action menu in the list, I get a dropdown menu in the "Name" column, and that dropdown lists the entire userlist from http://example.intranett.net/, while it's supposed to show just the user group for that particular subsite.

    As far as I can tell, the permission that grants users is called something like "Browse user information" (translating into english from another version of Sharepoint). I've tried removing that, but then I just get an error message telling the user that he/she cannot view the Name column.

    To sum up my problem; any ideas what is causing users permission to view site wide user information instead of just the local users of that particular subsite?

    I see the problem is also described by someone else here: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30736831/permission-level-browse.aspx

  • This is your best friend to avoid the permission issue you ran into:

    Unfortunatly I am not entirely sure about how you could modify the permissions to do what you want.

    It might be possible that you are misinterpreting what the column does? Datasheet view allows users to change the values of a column. In this case that column allows you to assign a user or group right? Well technically it showing all users is the same thing it does in edit mode on the list item, since you can search all users in that edit form.

    Let me know if I have misinterpreted the issue,
