Windows 8 driver signing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

Currently we use the 7600.16385.1 DDK for driver signing, and a command similar to this:

    inf2Cat /driver:%DEST%\DRIVER

    /os:2000,XP_X86,Server2003_X86,Vista_X86,Server2008_X86,XP_X64,Server2003_X64,Vista_X64,Server2008_X64,7_X86,7_X64

Even though we are not using the Win8 DDK, or stating Win8 in the supported OS list, we have found that we can install and run our drivers on Windows 8 (and Server2012) systems without error.

Why do we not need to change our Signing procedure for Win8 support?

Assuming that the answer to the above is 'backwards compatibility', this means that we can get away without changing our Singing procedure at all?

    thank you in advance

    jimmy
