Determining why our Word AddIn won't load RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all;

    I want to write a C# command line app that checks everything it can to determine why our AddIn fails to load (it is failing on two of our customer's systems - out of 40,000 users). So what should I check?

    This is what I've come up with so far:

    1. Verify that only 1 version of Office is installed, and get that version & bitness.
    2. Verify the registry settings we use to determine the Word version, location, & bitness are all correct.
    3. Look in the registry for AddIns to load. Verify our AddIn is there and get the location of it.
    4. Verify the version of .NET our AddIn uses is installed.
    5. Get that AddIn, which is a C++ shim. Verify the version & bitness are correct.
    6. Look in the same folder for the C# DLL it calls. Verify the version of that DLL.
    7. Get the list of all DLLs that C# DLL calls. Verify all of them can be found & loaded.

    Is there anything else I should test?

    thanks - dave
