New Install of SharePoint 2013 - Order of updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

I've been tasked with installing a new SharePoint 2013 environment, our ISO install file is en_sharepoint_server_2013_x64_dvd_1121447.iso.  I've seen there have been a lot of cumulative updates that have come out since SP 2013 has been released.

Do I need to install each cumulative update, or can I just install Service Pack 1 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880552/en-us) and then install the cumulative updates that have come out since then?  I also see there was a cumulative update released in April, June and July, do I need to install April before June and June before July?  Or can I skip both April and June and just do July?

I want to make sure I've got all the servers patched with the latest and greatest.

    I appreciate any assistance.

  • Yup, you don't need the March PU as told by @Alex, I missed that part.

Even if you try to install the March PU after SP 1, it will say - the update is already been installed. :)

So step will be SP 1 -> July CU, thats it.

  • You will need to install SP-1 and then the last CU update of July, it will contain all the updates.

    July 8,2014 update : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2882989/en-us .

Also, July update has a Prerequisite, so you will have to install this also before CU.

    Prerequisites

You must install the following public update before you apply this cumulative update package:
2767999 Description of the SharePoint Server 2013 update: March 12, 2013

    So, final steps will be:

SP1 -> Prerequisites of July CU update -> July CU update.

  • One more quick question, do I still need to do the "2767999 Description of the SharePoint Server 2013 update: March 12, 2013" update if I'm installing Service Pack 1 before that?  Wound't 2767999 be included in SP1?

  • You do not need to install the March PU if you are installing SP1. It can go straight on the RTM media.

    See here for confirmation: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Regressions/SP2013SP1Mark2.aspx
