When I began investigating Mono I wanted to run ASP.net and .net web services on non-Windows platforms. Seeing the technology Xamarin is creating I wanted to create server applications compatible with mobile development. Is the protocol for native mobile applications communication with the server soap over http web services so that there are no server side dependencies? Mono, .net or an Apache Axis2 Java App server platform could be used?

We're using ServiceStack with great success, communicating with our Mono For Android and MonoTouch applications, running on a Windows box. It looks like ServiceStack will also run on Mono, so this could be a good solution for you.

Thanks, I will check ServiceStack out. I read on another post that the mono clr was deployed to the non-Windows devices with the application. In general are server communication protocols those which the mono clr supports?
