Cannot log into hosted sharepoint on Office 365 with IE 9 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm experiencing a strange issue with hosted sharepoint 2010 and IE9.  When I try to log in it spins a few times and then finally errors with the following message:

    Microsoft Online Services is unavailable from this site for one of the following reasons

    • This site may be experiencing a problem
    • The site may not be a member of the Windows Live Network

    You can:

    • You can sign in or sign up at other Microsoft Online Services sites, or try
      again later at this site.

    I'm pretty sure it's a login problem.  I noticed that sometimes, if I'm logged in to sharepoint via firefox and then attempt to access the sharepoint site via ie9 it will skip asking me for login and spin a few times and then let me in.  After a few minutes I get a script failure message from firefox and stop the script and then it kicks me out of sharepoint on both browsers.

    I also re-ran the sign in assistant and after logging into it, I was able to access the sharepoint site.  But once I logged out of Sharepoint I couldn't get back in.  No issues on other machines with IE8 and no issues logging in on my machine with Firefox or Chrome.

  • To anyone else who searches and finds this post it's been solved on my end.

    Open IE9 goto tools-->advanced and click reset and then follow any prompts with yes or ok.

    Open IE9 goto tools-->Security-->Trusted Sites-->click sites and add:  https://*.sharepoint.com and https://*.microsoftonline.com

  • Thank you. I have been chasing this for days. So simple and elegant, glad you thought of it, since i did not.

  • FYI, I was having the same problem even after the above suggestions.  It wasn't until I closed my CRM session that I was finally able to log in with IE.

    Also, to add to this, you CAN log in with another web browser like firefox, chrome, etc.  This seems to be exclusive to IE (9 that I know of).
