  • I am using the sample database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Step by Step.  After following the directions where  I download the files for the solution in the first step by step  instructions I hit deploy and get this error.  I follow the instructions on the error below but still cannot get it to work

Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'I4X464D1\Developer' server because of the following connectivity problems :  A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running.  To verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment tab, and then enter the name of the server.  0 0

  • Hi Jim,

is that a named instance or default instance. if it is a named instance,in the solution explorer on project name-- right click TargetServerUrl -- it has to be somelike http://localhost(or yourserver name)/ReportServer_ssrs where ssrs  is the report server instance.

Were you able to connect to sql server from ssms. make sure you can connect from there first. let us know if you were still not able to.

    Hope it helps

  • Hi Stan,

On your first question:   it is a named instance I think,  if by named instance you mean I gave it a name during the installation of SQL Server.  I called it DEV2.

I don't see this TargetServerUrl in the Solution Explorer,  even when I click on the Project name.

    2nd question:

Yes,  I can connect to the database (Dev2) in SSMS.

I hope we're talking the same language.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Jim,

you should see targetserver url if you -- Right click on project name --properties --you will find Targetserver url.

Just to conform, did you install/configure report server.

You should find report server configuration under configuration tools in MSSql2008.

If you have report server configuration, make sure it is started and then go to web service url -- you will see the url there. make sure you have the same url at both targetserverurl and webserviceurl.

In the first question i meant default instance for ssrs not sql server. the sql server instance will act as only data source, the reports you are trying to deploy will be deployed on ssrs instance

sorry for confusion. hope it helps.let us know

  • Hi Stan,

During the instalaltion of SQL Server, we need to specify a instance name. If the instance name is MSSQLSERVER, the instance instaleld means a default instance and other instance name should be named instance. Typicaly, for a default instance, we use <computer_name> as the server name and <computer_name>\<instance_name> for a named instance. For more information, you can refer to this FAQ by SQL Server Forum Support Team.

Hope this helps. Pleaset let us know if you need more help.
