This is happening in my Application_Start calling AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas.

The runtime has encountered a fatal error. The address of the error was at 0xef216102, on thread 0x1058. The error code is 0xc0000005. This error may be a bug in the CLR or in the unsafe or non-verifiable portions of user code. Common sources of this bug include user marshaling errors for COM-interop or PInvoke, which may corrupt the stack.

I have recently mistakenly installed the .NET Framework 4.6.1 update, then uninstalled from Programs. Restarted computer; now development environment is broken.

I have also installed .NET Framework 4.5.2 update.

Not sure if either of those is related, per se.

I am running development on a Windows 7 x64 machine with VS2013, also VS2015. As far as I know, MVC 5, or could be 4, I get confused at the DLL hell sometimes. Pretty sure MVC 5.

I'll consider rolling back the 4.5.2 update; possibly that's what broke things, but it was fine after installing, did not require restart, and I was running development just fine up until starting up just now.

    Thank you...

I ended up repairing VS2013 (also 2015) and this seemed to fix the issue. I may completely abandon 2012 at this point since I am regularly using 2013.

Anyone else experience this error? What were your issues?
