  • Install SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012

I wonder; because currently - officially SSDT is only available for Visual Studio 2010, but not for VS 2012. Maybe the side was published by mistake, before SSDT for VS 2012 is released.

  • definitively a mistake:

take a look at the download link mentioned in the text:

SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 is available online as a download package at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=273673.

which results in an error page.

SSDT installer for VS2012 install SQL database support only but no support for SSIS, SSRS or SSAS.

  • allen, that is not the download that i'm looking for.

the technet page i linked to states that the file to download is: "SSDTBI_VS2012_x86_ENU.exe".

the file available at the page you linked to is "SSDTSetup.exe".

    the technet page states:

"SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012 includes business intelligence project authoring tools and project templates for SQL Server Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services integrated into a Visual Studio 2012 shell."

the SSDT December 2012 update that you linked to does not include BI project templates in a VS2012 shell.

  • I agree. I have yet to find any way to get the project templates for SQL Server Reporting Services (that's really all I need). It seems like the SSDTBI_VS2012_x86_ENU.exe file holds a lot of promise but I can't find it either.

We've all been waiting to edit reports in VS 2012 and, unless I'm missing something, we still can't.

  • SQL Server reporting services is not yet available in the SSDT 2012 version yet. The only supported feature right now in SSDT 2012 is database project. This feature should be available shortly though Microsoft has not yet communicated any hard date over here.

To view more information about what is available in SSDT 2012, please visit this link over here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ssdt/archive/2012/12/13/available-today-ssdt-december-2012.aspx.

  • Hooray! Installed and all seems good now. I'm able to edit and deploy reports using VS 2012. Not seeing any changes to the functionality or tooling (now just looks VS 2012ish) but that is fine.

    Thanks!

  • Unfortunately that seems to be only the 32 bit version and will not install on my 64 bit SQL Server 2012 Enterprise. :(

  • Pretty sure all the client tools are 32bit only. They should work fine with a 64bit version of SQL Server though - exactly what issue are you having?

  • SSDTBI_VS2012_x86_ENU.exe applies to both 32-bit and 64-bit. If you already installed SQL Server 2012 SP1, install this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793634, else let Product Updates (step 2) do it for you (requires internet).
