TFS 2012 builds stuck at Just Started RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a TFS 2012 RTM server installed. The Build Service starts without any errors and the build controller and agent are shown in the 'Manage Build Controllers' windows as Enabled and Available.

If I start a build, it sits in the queue without getting processed. I can stop and delete it just fine.

On the build machine, when I restart the build service, everything seems to start normally, no errors, controller and agents are shown as Ready with the Green Play icon.

After about 15 seconds, the controller/agents icons is turning into the Red Stop (status still shows are Ready) and a Detail Link shows up in the Service Links bar. If I click on the Details link, I get a 'HTTP 404 Error' pop-up (see attached screenshot for details)

    What can be the problem?

  • Alin,

Please follow instructions as indicated here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa833872.aspx.

Especially pay attention to the area which is asking you to make changes in Message Queue web.config file.. changing the web.config is key and it works...

    Hope it helps.

  • Hi Alin,

    Thanks for your post!

Could you run a Team Foundation Build Healthy Check with Best Practice Analyzer (BPA) and post the relaed errors here?

You need to install Team Foundation Server Power Tools to run the Best Practice Analyzer, please download from http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/c255a1e4-04ba-4f68-8f4e-cd473d6b97

    Hope it helps!

  • Hello Cathy,

The Health Check is all green. I even ran the Full Check and there were no issues found.

I also narrowed this down a bit - if I connect the build server to the http://server-name:8080, it works, however, if I connect to https://server-name, I get this error issue. So, it may have something to do with HTTPS...

  • This does seem to make a difference - now the error message is HTTP 500 - internal server error instead on HTTP 404. I restarted both servers and double-checked the web.config - how can i tell if the updates are fine in the Message Queue web.config?

  • The web.config was the issue - i accidentally deleted an extra tag when making the changes.

    Thanks, Sahas!!
