Unable to Launch PowerPivot Window

Question
-
Hi,
So here is my issue. If I open Excel and create a new local worksheet and then press the PowerPivot button, PowerPivot launches. If I open an existing workbook from my computer and press the PowerPivot button, PowerPivot launches. If I publish this workbook to SharePoint and open it within the SharePoint enviornment, all my slicers work and my data updates as expected. So far no problems.
However, if I open the Excel file directly from SharePoint either by using the dropdown "Edit in Microsoft Excel" on the file name in the document library or if I choose "Open in Excel" from the bar, I can't get the PowerPivot window to open. I can open the Excel workbook just fine but PowerPivot won't launch. In fact, none of the buttons under the PowerPivot tab do anything. I checked my add-ins and it shows that PowerPivot is active. I also select Edit and click yes to all the connection and refresh questions that have come up.
Any idea what is happening here? I don't want to have to donwload this file each time and save it locally and then open Excel, modify PowerPivot and then reload it each time I want to make a change.
Thanks.
Alan

Hi Alan,
Also, if are able to download the workbook, double-click on it, and the Excel client opens with the PowerPivot add-in working properly, but you fail to do so using the dropdown "Edit in Microsoft Excel", the issue is not with PowerPivot nor with Excel. This button uses a SharePoint control "OpenDocument" that downloads the content and opens the associated probram. If it's failing, that SharePoint control might be doing something wrong. Does your workbook, or URL, have any special characters?
If you can, you should contact CSS and report the problem with this SharePoint control. I've just tested here doing exactly your scenario with Excel 2010, SharePoint 2010 and PowerPivot and it is working as it should.
Nevertheless, if you have the error message, call stack, or any related information with your issue send it my way that I can investigate it too.
Hope that helps,
Mariano

Hi Alan,
Do you get any errors when Excel is opening the workbook (or when loading the Add-ins)? What Excel version are you running (32 or 64-bit version)?
Thanks,
Mariano
