We have a non-SSL website that we want to make secure with SSL cert. We are obtaining the SSL cert, but wondered if we need to do anything special in our asp.net website (e.g. web.config and IIS) other than use https instead of http?

Yes, you must install the certificate and configure you site to use the certificate.  Generally the certificate authority, where you purchased the certificate, has explicit instructions.

The community cannot see your web.config.  Open the web config and look for "http".  Does your  web.config contain any URLs that point to the site?  These can be configurations like service references.
