Visual Studio 2017 Community Edition won't launch

    Question

  • As thread title, It's a fresh install on Win10 Pro. Box is cori7/16GBDDR4/256GB SSD/2x 1GB HDD/2GB Nvidia GPU.

The Microsoft Visual Studio message reads:

The 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Connected.ConnectedUser.ConnecredUserPackage' did not load correctly

The problem may have been caused by a configuration changeo r by the installation of another extension.

Restarting Visual Studio could help resolve this issue.

    It doesn't!

Here's the relevant portion of the log file:

  • Hi Davdi_J_D,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

    Please try the steps below:

    • Launch “Developer Command Prompt for VS 2017” as Administrator
    • Go to VS 2017 installation folder, for example: pushd C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\community
    • gacutil -if Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Shell.Interop.8.0.dll

    Refer: https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/30312/problems-when-starting-vs-2017-enterprise-on-windo.html

Besides, please open an administrative CMD window and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Community\Common7\IDE and run the command: devenv /safemode, if it works and it looks like this issue caused by the extensions or you need to remove the installed extensions under Tools—Extensions and Updates.

If the issue persists, please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder. Please upload the file tohttps://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

    Best regards,

    Joyce
