  • I created automatic generating reference number using SharePoint designer workflow when item is created and another workflow for email trigger for specific people and in the email trigger it should display the reference number details in the email description,i am facing issue that the reference number is not getting updated in email trigger.as its displaying ABC000 although after sometime the reference no workflow getting updated in the list  so there is some time delay but how to handle this conflict since i need to trigger email with reference number once the item is created and it should also update the reference number in the email.

  • Hi Sree,

    You can use any of the option given below:

    • You can use calculated column to generate the reference number, then you can use a workflow to trigger an email, if you are not depending on ID Column.
    • You can run the first workflow ( create reference number) when the item was created and you can run the second workflow( send an email) when the item was modified
    • final option, you can accumulate both functionality in same workflow and you can use pause option to wait your step one creates the reference number and after times completed you can execute the step 2(send email)

  • Hi Sree,

    you can include a wait activity in email workflow to wait for reference workflow to finish. Either create flag field and set it's value  to "yes" using reference workflow and in email workflow wait for flag change to "yes".
