Compact 2013 platform development using VS2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to install WEC2013 platform builder on a VS2013 Pro 30 day trial environment but I'm having some trouble getting platform builder to integrate with VS2013.

I have installed VS2013 on a freshly installed OS, installed the application builder and then installed platform builder (the latest version from Microsoft website) and have the following two problems:

Shared source won't install through the installer (says it can't find the .msi file to download)

I can't open my OSdesign project files, nor can I create a new OSdesign as there aren't any options in VS2013 to create a new OSdesign.

Does anyone have any ideas why my install might not work?

    Thanks,

  • Read the release notes of the updates. It states the shared source items are not available for download, only through MyOEM or other private channels. To install updates you'll have to deselect the shared source items when using WEDU.

Are you installing WEC2013 update 2 or the original WEC2013? If the latter that won't work with VS2013 (only VS2012 was supported in the initial drop of WEC2013).

Even though WEC2013 Update 2 is confusingly called an "Update", it is in fact not. It is more like WEC2013 Release 2; it's a full release and you have to uninstall the original WEC2013 installation before you can install "Update 2", otherwise the "Update 2" complains there is a previous version installed of WEC2013.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thanks for the reply.

I downloaded trial version of VS2013 from here: http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/ so I'm pretty sure it's update 2 (Visual Studio Professional 2013 with Update2)

I downloaded Windows Embedded Compact Toolkit from here: (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39268) which is different to the link on your website.

I will verify the version of VS2013 and try the link to the compact toolkit on your website.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  • I'm not talking about VS update 2. I'm talking about WEC2013 update 2 (or whatever it was called).

Microsoft has again done a great job of confusing us all, because I can't even find any reference to "WEC2013 Update 2" anymore. Seems to have vanished from the web. I guess if you download WEC2013 you get the latest version automatically, but try to download from the links in my blog post to be absolutely sure.

  • Hi Michael,

    A thousand thanks to you!

Microsoft has indeed done a great job of confusing people, and disappointing at the lack of support available, lucky we have awesome people like you on the support forums!

It's 9pm here and I came in to work to test the download link on your blog because I knew I wouldn't sleep otherwise and it works perfectly!!

I now have VS2013 trial with PB2013 trial version running on my test PC, now I know that it will work on my development machine.

    Thanks,

    Tom
