Cannot run VS2015 as a different domain user after Win10 Anniversary Update

    General discussion

  • When trying to run VS2015u3 as a different domain user (via cmd or context menu) I get an message saying "This task requires the application to have elevated permissions", and closes.

I've tried logging in as that account and opening VS with no problems. Also checked that the user is set as an admin on the computer via mmc.

    Looking at this thread: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1315261c-0d9e-49bf-8334-6c0195015598/ssms-2016-fails-on-windows-10-version-1607-while-trying-to-execute-it-as-a-different-domain-user?forum=sqltools

It appears that SQL2016 is also have the same issue.

This functionality was working fine before the OS Anniversary update, but it seems something has changed in this function that's causing this error.

  • Hi KmanKashani,

    Thank you for your post.

Apparently, the cause is related to the Win 10 Anniversary Update, you may try to repair your VS first.

If it doesn't work, please go to windows forum for dedicated support.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10

Or how about trying another domain user to log in and run the VS, if the same situation occurs, you could submit this feedback to Microsoft Connect feedback portal: http://connect.microsoft.com, Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously. Thanks for your understanding. After you submit the feedback, you can post the link here which will be beneficial for other members with the similar issue. And I will help you to vote it.
