  • Hi,

Assumption: You already have a VM with SharePoint 2013 Installed that you can install VS2013

    If NO

Assumption your HW/SW meet minimum requirements to run hyper-v

    Minimum Requirements

Although this document does not provide a complete list of Hyper-V compatible hardware, the following items are necessary

      • 64-bit Processor with Second Level Address Translation (SLAT).
      • CPU support for VM Monitor Mode Extension (VT-c on Intel CPU's).
      • Minimum of 4 GB memory. As virtual machines share memory with the Hyper-V host, you will need to provide enough memory to handle the expected virtual workload.

The following items will need to be enabled in the system BIOS

    • Virtualization Technology - may have a different label depending on motherboard manufacturer.
    • Hardware Enforced Data Execution Prevention.

You should have at least 16gb of RAM available for your VM. But, you may be able to get by with less if you turn off most of the SharePoint services. Nut not less than 8gb of RAM

Assumption: You have enough HW (Disk space / ram) running a BIOS enable VT switch for Intel

    1. enable VT Switch and download SharePoint trial VM http://www.howtogeek.com/213795/how-to-enable-intel-vt-x-in-your-computers-bios-or-uefi-firmware/
    2. Install Hyper-v in windows 7 https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/schadinio/2010/07/09/installing-hyper-v-manager-on-windows-7/
    3. Download SharePoint 2013 RTM Trial Virtual Machine https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/SharePoint-2013-RTM-Trial-9e198fec/view/Discussions#content
    4. Unzip and Start the VM and configure as per instructions, the administrator password is pass@word1
    5. Stop Services that arte not necessary

    Open VS2012 -  import a .wsp file

    1. In Visual Studio, on the menu bar, choose File, New, Project to display the New Project dialog box. If your IDE is set to use Visual Basic development settings, on the menu bar, choose File, New Project.

    2. Expand the SharePoint node under either Visual C# , and then choose the 2013 node.

    3. Choose the Import SharePoint 2013 Solution Package template in the Templates pane, Choose a Project name (the file name of the WSP you are about to import), the default will be WspImportProject1, and choose the OK button.

      The SharePoint Customization Wizard appears.

    4. On the Specify the site and security level for debugging page, enter the URL for the second SharePoint subsite that you created earlier. You will add the new custom Field item, http://system name/columntest2, to that subsite.

    5. In the What is the trust level for this SharePoint solution? section, leave the selection as Deploy as a sandboxed solution.

    6. In the Specify the new project source page, browse to the location on the system where you saved the .wsp file previously and then choose the Next button. Choose the Project name the default will be WspImportProject1

    7. In the Select items to import box, clear all of the check boxes in the list except for Test Column, and then choose the Finish button.

After the import operation is finished, a new project named WspImportProject1 is created that contains a folder named Fields. In this folder is the custom site column Test Column and its definition file Elements.xml. Be

Note: above reference is to import SharePoint 2010 wsp. However, steps remain the same for SharePoint 2013, just use the SharePoint 2013 import template

If you have SharePoint installed but you don't have VS2015 download VS2015 Community Edition from the following link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48146

Perform the steps above the steps 1-7 below Open VS2012 -  import a .wsp file
